here Pearce Cup cricket will be returning to Kelburn Park next summer, thanks to the Senior side who defeated Johnsonville by 110 runs in an epic 3-day Hazlett Trophy final at Petone Rec. Highlights included a stunning first-innings 116 from Hamish Evans batting at no. 8 and a fine all-round effort from Graham Murray (Billy) who took 10 wickets in the match to go with 41 and 71 with the bat. Two Day Grades All the action occured on day one as the weather washed out day two of all the matches, meaning all games ended in draws. The seniors continued their good batting posting 214-4 against Taita. Nick Wanden scoring his madien 100 for the club finishing on 118. Forrest lending a hand with 51. Taita were 112-5 at stumps. The Lions bounced back from last weeks loss with a good day against J'Ville. Batting first the Lions scored 173 with Doc 65 and J O'Donnell 63 leading the way with the bat. In reply J'Ville were all out for 117 with Neil Badenhurst taking 5-42. The Tamils were on the back foot against Easts. Easts scoring 266 and the Tamils were 118-5 at stumps. The Stallions and Karori were evenly posied after day one. The Stallions scored 229-8 with Michael Butchard scoring 62*. Karori were 226-2 in reply. The Entertainers had a good day against J'Ville scoring 215-7, JVille were 182-6 at stumps. The Jedis were 168-7 at stumps chasing Karori's 219. The Bean Counters were behind in their game only scoring 100 in their first innings replying Sri Lankan Sports 154.
One Day Grades - 13 December 2008 The Indomitables rolled Collegians for 24 and won by 10 wickets. The Mongols lost a low scoring game by 29 runs. The Stubbies, Wranglers and Wildcats all had good wins. B Dickson staring for the Wildcats scoring 48. One Day Grades - 20 December 2008 All games cancelled due to weather.

Two Day Grades Mixed results for the two day teams. The seniors game ended in a draw with Petone choosing to bat out most of the 2nd day. Forrest 68, Billy 57 & Trav 64 scored well for the seniors on a batter friendly pitch. The Lions had a game to forget losing by an innings and 64 runs. Only highlights were VK taking 4-76 and Julian Read scoring his madien 50 for the club. The Stallions fought out a close draw. Chasing 180 to win, the Stallions ended at 171-9. Match highlights included Tony Liefting scoring 84 and Graham Mann taling 4-29. The Tamils had a great win against Onslow by 66 runs. R Pancha 119* and Ropati 82* stared for the Tamils during the match. Both the Entertainers and Jedis lost their games. AJ scoring 58 for the Entertainers and J Murphy for the Jedis scoring 76 during their respective matches. The Bean Counters lost by 5 wickets against Karori with D Patel 57 and S Klamchanvan 4-51 the only notable performances.
One Day Grades - 29 November 2008 The ladies continued on their winning way with a 2 wicket win against Upper Hutt. M Chhagan leading the way with 49. The Mongols had a good win over Johnsonville by 6 wickets rolling Johnsonville for 61 with James Suter taking 5-10. The Wranglers lost to Collegians by 7 wickets, but the Wildcats beat Karori by 51 runs.
One Day Grades - 6 December 2008 The ladies had a easy win against Collegians chasing down 138 with the loss of one wicket. M Chhagan 46 and T Ure-Bowan 41* staring with the bat. The Indomitables and Mongols won by 7 & 4 wickets respectivately. The Wranglers beat J'Ville by 9 wickets and the Stubbies beat Collegians by 47 runs with P Lee scoring 59. However the Wildcats lost to Norths by 139 runs.

In one day matches, the senior side had a disappointing loss off the last ball of the match. The Senior side batting first scored 217-7 off 50 overs. Forrest 64 and Gravy 47 leading the way. Norths needed 2 runs off the last ball of the innings and were 9 down. They scored the 2 runs to win by 1 wicket. Matt Sadd bowled well taking 3-27 off his 10 overs. The 2C Bean Counters won their first game for the club by 3 wickets over Onslow. The 1A Indomitables continued their great start to the season beating Onslow by 103 runs. The 1A Mongols scored 229-3 with Brad Anderson finishing 103 not out, however the Wgtn Indians reached 233 for the lost of only 1 wicket. The 1B Stubbies beat the 1B Symmo Wranglers by 37 runs with P Lee being the star for the Stubbies scoring 106 and F Handley scoring 50 for the Wranglers.
The two day games ended in a win to the Senior 3 Lions, a draw between the 2A Tamils and 2A Stallions and a lost to the 2B Jedis. The Lions extended their 1st innings lead to 81 runs and then rolled Taita for 120 with Hamish Evans taking 7-38. The Lions lost only 1 wicket in reaching its target of 41. A good first up win for the Lions. The Tamils and Stallions game ended in a draw after the Tamils set the Stallions 296 to win. The Stallions did not take up the challenge and ended up 97-3 at stumps. The 2B Jedis were set 249 by Norths but were bowled out for 62 to lose by 187 runs.

We finally we got a fine Saturday and all the teams got under way, well almost. The 2B Entertainers won their 2 day game by default from J'Ville. However they played a friendly game against the 1B Symmo Wranglers who had a bye. The senior side had a good 6 wicket win against Collegians after blowling them out for 73. The 2C Bean Counters playing their first game for the club lost to Brooklyn by 56 runs. D Patel top scored in the run chase with 53. In other one games the 1A Indomitables won by a huge 261 runs, the 1A Mongols won by 8 wickets, the 1B Stuubies lost by 7 wickets and the 1B Wildcats lost by 35 runs.
In day one of the two day matches, the Senior 3 Lions were 12 runs behind on Taita's first innings of 132 with still 4 1st innings wickets left. The 2A Tamils were playing the 2A Stallions. The Tamils scored 249-9 with V Patel scoring 92. The Stallions were 166-9 at stumps. The 2B Jedis rolled Norths for 117 and then scored 164 with D Murphy scoring 86. Well it happened again, a thunder storm on Friday afternoon washed out any chance grades 2B and below had of playing and those grades were duly cancelled on Friday night. The only teams to play were the Hazlett side, Senior 3, 2A Stallions and 2A Tamils. The Hazlett side had a day to forget only scoring 139 and losing by 9 wickets. Dan Norman (Diggy) managed to break his leg trying to stop a straight drive off his own bowling after only bowling 8 balls. The Hazlett side have some sole searching before the next match. The Senior 3, 2A Stallions and 2A Tamils all had first up wins. The Senior 3 winning by 51 runs. The 2A Stallions winning by 8 wickets with R Da Silva being the star of the match taking 4-9 and scoring 50 with the bat. The 2A Tamils won by 4 wickets with V Patel playing a big hand in the win taking 4-35 and scoring 68 with the bat.

Well, all we can say is when will the rain stop falling. Rain washed out all games this weekend. The Hazlett side did start there game against Taita at Fraser Park. University batted first and were 58-3 off 22 overs when the rain came and washed out the game. Adam Clarke was 28 not out at the time. All other games were washed out whiched included the Senior 3, 2A Stallions & 2A Tamils games. the 2B grade was cancelled on Friday due to the lack of grass wickets available. Next weekend all grades are supposed to start, however as like the previous couple of weeks it really depends on the weather and whether the council can get the grass wickets ready in time.
Weekend Wrap Saturday 25 October 2008 Well the weather didn't play ball this weekend. The Lions (senior 3) game was cancelled on Friday as a result of the rain that occured at the end of the week. The Hazlett team's game was transferred from Alex Moore Park to Churton Park. However due to the heavy rain that occured on Friday night the outfield was water logged and was unfit for cricket. As a result the game was called off without a ball being bowled. The Hazlett side plays on Labour Day (Monday) vs Wellington College so they will be hoping for some fine weather so some cricket can be played.

After no play was possible on Saturday for either the Hazlett or the Senior 3 sides, the Hazlett side was hoping for good conditions for its game against Wellington College on Monday. The day didn't get off to good start, as the outfield on Kilbirnie 3A being declared unfit. However the game was transferred to Kilbirnie 1A instead. The game didn't start until 2pm and was reduced to a 36 overs match. University won the toss and decided to bowl and restricted Wellington College to 90-9 off 36 overs. In reply the Hazlett side again made it hard for themselves reaching 91-7 in the 33rd over. |
