Varsity's Thomas leading wicket taker in Hazlett TrophyVUWCC medium pacer Simon Thomas is the leading wicket
taker in the Hazlett Trophy. In the 11 matches to 28 January, Thomas had
taken 37 wickets, eight more than any other player. These have come at
an economy rate of just 3.05 per over and a miserly average of 10.05 per wicket.
Thomas' outstanding form has seen him take two five wicket hauls, with
a best performance of 5 for 15. Ben Rapson is enjoying a good season with the bat, and is currently locked in a three way battle at the top of the Hazlett Trophy run scorers chart. Up to 28 January Rapson had scored 512 runs at an average of 36.57, including four 50s and a high score of 96 against Eastern Suburbs. Rapson will be looking to edge away from Nae Nae's Cameron Cross (513 runs) and Johnsonville's Wellington rep Luke Woodcock (510 runs) to take out the Senior batting trophy for the second time in three seasons. Ben Sandford off to the OlympicsFormer VUWCC senior cricketer Ben Sandford has qualified
for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turino, Italy in the sport of skeleton racing.
Sandford made the New Zealand squad after finishing 8th in a
qualifiying race in Kognisee, Germany on 14 January, and is now training hard

Pre-Season Training begins AugustPre season for the senior teams will commence on Monday 15 August 2005 at the Cricket Academy at Westpac Trust Stadium from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and there after every Monday night until 3 October 2005. All players wishing to play for either the senior or senior reserve sides are invited to attend. All other teams will have the opportunity to train at the indoor nets at the Basin Reserve from Sunday 11 September 2005 from 1.00pm to 5.00pm and there after every Sunday until 2 October 2005. Please keep an eye on this space for schedule times for each grade or get in touch with your last years captain.

Victoria University of Wellington Cricket Club is currently seeking a Club Captain.
We require someone who has a passion for cricket but more importantly a passion our cricket club. The successful candidate will be someone who shows that they have the goals and aspirations to make VUWCC the number 1 club both socially and competitively inWellington. This is a long term commitment that we would expect the candidate to take on for 3-4 cricket seasons. This voluntary role that can take up to 10-15 hours a week during the season and at the start of each cricket season can take up to 40 hours.
